privacy policy
Your family's privacy matters to us. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to be UK GDPR aware. Last updated: 16 June 2026.
who we are
Vieni provides the Vieni app and this website. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Vieni is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@vieni.app.
what we collect
- Account details: your name and email, and basic profile information you choose to add.
- Children's age bands only: we store an age band for your child (for example "1 to 2 years"), never a date of birth, so we can show age-appropriate activities.
- Borough and location: the borough you are in, and approximate location if you choose to share it, so we can show what is nearby.
- Languages and nationality: optional. These are opt-in and private by default. We only collect them if you choose to add them, and only you control who sees them.
- Messages: the content of messages and event group chats you take part in.
- Usage information: basic, app-related technical and usage data to keep Vieni working and improve it.
our lawful bases
We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:
- Contract: to provide your account and the core features of Vieni.
- Consent: for optional information such as languages and nationality, and any optional features. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: to keep Vieni safe, to prevent abuse, and to improve the service, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation: where we must keep or share information to comply with the law, including safeguarding.
how we use your information
We use your information to run your account, show you relevant nearby activities, let you connect with other parents and join event group chats, keep the community safe through our report and block tools, respond to you, and improve Vieni.
what other parents can see
Other parents only see what you choose to share. Your name and anything you add to your public profile may be visible, along with messages you send in shared chats. Languages and nationality stay private unless you opt to share them. We never display a child's date of birth, only an age band if you choose to show one.
we do not sell your data
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
children's data
Vieni is for adults, the parents and carers. We do not knowingly let children use the service. The only information we hold about a child is an age band that you, the parent or carer, provide. We deliberately do not collect a child's name, date of birth or photo as required fields, and we ask everyone never to share another child's details or images without consent.
retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep some information to meet a legal obligation or to handle a safety matter.
your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your personal data as described above. To exercise any other right, email hello@vieni.app.
cookies
This website uses only essential cookies needed to make it work. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.
how to contact us and complaints
For any privacy question or request, email hello@vieni.app. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Vieni grows. If we make significant changes, we will let you know in the app or by email.
